0815A – Legal Rights-Protect Yourself from Debt Collectors
Recent changes in the bankruptcy laws have changed the way collectors deal with consumers-they’re even more aggressive than they used to be. Nevertheless, protection against various intrusions into your life and finances is still available. This class will provide you the knowledge necessary to respond to a letter or phone call from a bill collector. Few people, including most lawyers, know that the law gives them significant rights. This class is about those rights that collectors don’t want consumers to know about. Topics include: a form letter that can be sent to make the calls stop; lists of what debt collectors may and may not do; how to determine if an attorney (like the one who teaches this class) is needed and worth their salt.
